Hungarian Passport Ranking: Visa-Free Access To 187 Countries

The Hungarian passport ranking is currently 8th globally, allowing visa-free travel to 187 countries. It also offers a high mobility score, enabling holders to travel with minimal restrictions. This guide explains the Henley Passport Index, lists the countries accessible with a Hungarian passport, and provides useful tips on obtaining one.

What is the Henley passport index?

The Henley passport index ranks countries according to the strength of their passports, measuring how many destinations their citizens can visit without a visa or with a visa-on-arrival. It was created by Henley & Partners, a British investment migration consultancy, and is updated yearly.

According to its official definition:

“The Henley Passport Index is the original, authoritative ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) – the largest, most accurate travel information database – and enhanced by Henley & Partners’ research team. (…) “

The methodology behind the index is not complicated. It evaluates 199 passports and their access to 227 destinations. A score of 1 is assigned if no visa is needed or if entry is allowed with a visa on arrival, visitor’s permit, or electronic travel authority. A score of 0 is assigned if a visa, pre-approved e-visa, or government approval for entry is required. Since multiple countries can achieve the same number of points, more than one country may hold the same position in the global rankings.
